ON THIS DATE: Winds of Thunder, localized for the West as Lords of Thunder, was released on this date in Japan in 1993 for the PC Engine DUO (known as the Turbo DUO in North America).
The game is a horizontally-scrolling shooter that is perhaps best-known for its heavy metal soundtrack, but also sports several different suits— each with its own powers— and a variety of levels to test the skills of any player.
It was ported to the SEGA CD in 1995, and was most recently released for the Wii Virtual Console in 2008. The disc versions of the game are increasingly valuable, with the Turbo DUO version commanding over $100.
